In an interview about the Athertons with VeloVert magazine, Max Commencal acknowledged that the Atherton’s contract had ended, stating, “They had the opportunity to go into a large structure, which is perfectly understandable. I remember especially the fantastic five years we spent together with two world titles and two World Cups.” Nothing has been formally announced, but it is rumored that the Athertons will join GT for 2012. Max also stated that Commencal will still have a team present in the World Cup pits in 2012. That team has yet to be announced.
