Sabrina Jonnier Interview

Pink is the new black with France’s Sabrina Jonnier…
Did you get time to do the tourist thing or was it all business for you at the first round of the World Cup in South Africa?
Sabrina: We didn’t really got any time to do Tourist stuff while in South Africa; we did a small “safari” Monday after the race; it was pretty cool to see Girafe, Zebra and other wild animals so close.
You incorporate a lot of Yoga in your training. Is it just Yoga or do you supplement it with other exercises?
Sabrina: It’s Yoga with Relaxation and meditation.
You use the same trainer as Greg Minnaar don’t you?
Sabrina: Yes, Stephane Girard been coaching me since 2002
After your race run at the first round you did not look happy crossing the line as if you knew Tracy Moseley might have an answer for your time?
Sabrina: I knew it wasn’t a winning time, my run wasn’t really fast, and I did too many mistakes; plus I wasn’t strong enough on the pedaling section… So I wasn’t really surprised when Tracy killed the race with a 4.20… it was the time I planned aswell.
Since Rachel Atherton is injured and was dominating last year it has opened up the ladies class. When she returns to the series from injury it might mix the points up even more?
Sabrina: Not sure what’s going on with Rachel; it’s just too bad she can’t be there racing with us yet…
You look like you are out there to win and are never happy with anything else?
Sabrina: That’s right, I like to win; so whenever I loose a race, I get pretty upset…
Have you ever had a 9 to 5 job or has it just been riding bikes?
Sabrina: Yes, I used to have a normal job in the winter few years ago… It wasn’t really fun… Today I only ride bikes, and it make my life so special and happy!
Since Europe is pretty miserable and cold in the off season where do you train during that time?
Sabrina: I like to go down to Australia and New Zealand during the off season; I’m not much of a cold weather person! But I always end up back home before and between the races; it’s my happy place right now to charge my battery!
You win the World Cup one year, then someone else wins it the following year then you win it again. By that pattern you are due another championship this year!
Sabrina: Will try to
How come you do not have your own personal website?
Sabrina: I’m working on it… but I had to hire somebody cause I’m not really good with computer stuff!
As well as 4x and DH you have raced BMX as well no?
Sabrina: I started racing BMX when I was 6 years old until I saw Anne Caroline Chausson on TV and decided to try Downhill aswell.
Is winning to you more about the accomplishment within yourself and meeting goals than a trophy or prize money?
Sabrina: Winning just makes me happy; I love that feeling at the finish when I just had an awesome run, everything went like planned all the way down…
Is it a good motivator to be on a new bike (Rocky Mountain) and team this year?
Sabrina: Yes, things changed a lot since last year with Maxxis, we are racing Rocky Mountain bicycles now; it’s really exciting to work with them since Rocky are really working hard to step up on the products so the least we can do is try hard aswell!
Is pink an essential ingredient with your bikes?
Sabrina: I just love Pink, and I like my bikes to be pretty !
Do you ever post any of your scrap book work online?
Sabrina: No!
